1.TELEGRAPH :-

is used for communication of engine movements between bridge and engine room. Most modern ships have telegraph which are electronically operated they continue to bring after an order has been made until the receipt of proper reply the engine room telegraph must be tested before leaving and entering port.

2.GYROREPEATER :-

Gyro compass is used on all vessels for determining the true course of the ship the gyro compass has a repeater in each bridge wing for observing the heading of the ship and taking bearings.

3.ANEROID BAROMETER :-

this instrument source atmospheric pressure in inch or millibars.

Aneroid barometer

4.AUTOPILOT:-

in this mode the vessel steers without the need of helmsman.course can be altered by training the autopilot knob. if the course steered goes off by a present value the ofcourse alarm will activate generally used in open seas and areas of reduced traffic congestion.

5.ARPA :-

AUTOMATIC RECORDER PLOTTING AIDS IN ITS SIMPLEST FORM IS USED TO CALCULATE THE COURSE AND THE SPEED OF THE TARGET VESSEL AND THE TIME AND THE RANGE TO THE CLOSEST POINT OF APPROACH.

6.RADAR :-

An electromagnetic instrument which can scan horison with the aid of a scanner and reproduces all the reflected electromagnetic pulse on a display screen.

The radar display can be set on short rangers such as 0.5, 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 miles or on long rangers such as 24 ,48 miles.

All echoes of the target and land within the range in use is marked on the screen. In restricted visibility it plays a vital role in the safe navigation of the ship.

7.VHF :-

like a telephone this instrument is used for communication between Ships and other between ships and shore the international calling channel is channel 16.

8.ANEMOMETER:-

an instrument that shows wind direction and speed. the display is located on the bridge showing wind speed in knots and metre per second.Rudder angle indicator an instrument that shows the angle of radar

9.TACHOMETER (RPM indicator)

A meter that indicates the revolution per minute of the propeller.

Tachometer rpm indicator

10.NAVTEX :-

like a radio station this machine broadcast in printed text various information about navigational assistance, danger, distress and the weather etc.

Navtex

11.CHRONOMETER:-

super clock that shows Greenwich mean time upon which all the navigational calculations are made.

12.COURSE_RECORDER:-

this is a graphical monitor/ printout, recording the various quotes stated by the safe around the clock for every full passage from departure port to arrival at the next port.

13.Speed_Distance_Log_Device:-

This bridge equipment on a ship is used to measure the speed and the distance travelled by a ship from a set point. By calculating the same, ETA of the ship is adjusted or given to the port authority and agent.

14.AIS-

automatic identification system is an aic to identify details such as name, port of registration , MMSI number , course and speed etc of approaching vessel.

AIS

15.EPIRB :-

emergency position indicating radio beacon used for sending automatic distress signal to costal stations via satellite.

16.SART :-

search and rescue transponder used to send distress to vessels within radar vicinity. the blips from the SART are display on the 3CM radar of the approaching vessel.

Sart

17.ECDIS Electronic Chart Display Information System:-

ECDIS is a development in the navigational chart system used in naval vessels and ships. With the use of the electronic navigation equipment, it has become easier for a ship’s navigating crew to pinpoint locations, and attaining directions are easier than before.

18.Long Range Tracking and Identification (#LRIT) System:-

LRIT is an international tracking and identification system incorporated by the IMO under its SOLAS convention to ensure a thorough tracking system for ships of 300 gross tons and above which are on international voyages across the world. This maritime equipment is fitted to improve the maritime domain awareness.

19.VDR Voyage Data Recorder:-

A VDR or voyage data recorder is a crucial instrument among the ship navigation equipment list which is installed on a ship to continuously record vital information related to the operation of a vessel. It contains a voice recording system for a period of at least the last 12 hours. This recording is recovered and made use of for investigation in events of accidents.

20.Rate_of_turn_indicator:-

This navigational tool indicates how fast the ship is turning at a steady rate (useful during pilotage and manoeuvring), normally shown as a number of degrees turned. The rate a ship is turning is measured in degrees per minute. This essential tool assists a coxswain in steering a course safely.

21.Sound_Reception_System:-

This acoustic system is required for a ship with a fully enclosed type bridge. It enables the navigating officer inside the cabin to listen to the sound signals (such as fog or ship’s horn) from other ships in the vicinity. This is fitted in ships bridge equipment console and helps the navigating officer to conduct the look-out duty as per the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.

22.Ship_Whistle

A ship’s horn is known as a whistle and it is generally provided in duplicate. One is driven by air and the other is electrically operated. The whistle should be both manually and electrically operational from the bridge.

Among different instruments used in difficult navigation such as bad weather, fog, poor visibility, high traffic etc., the ship’s whistle or horn helps in alerting the nearby vessels.

During an emergency, the horn is used to notify and alert the ship’s crew and other vessels nearby.

23.Daylight_Signalling_Lamp

They are light-signalling devices used for emergency signalling in the day time (and can also be used during the night). Like other emergency ship instruments, the energy source for the lamp is not solely dependent on the ship’s main power supply. Also, the lamp enclosure should be weather and seawater- proof material.

23.Forecastle Bell :-

It is used to mark the presence of the ship in fog or bad weather and sound the alarm in case of an emergency, along with the ship’s main horn or whistle.
